    Description

The Clementine Mandarin Tree is a beautiful and productive citrus tree that produces small, sweet and juicy mandarins. The fruit has a bright orange color and a thin, easy-to-peel skin. Clementine Mandarin tree are easy to grow in gardens or containers.

Also known as a Algerian Tangerine, the Clementine Mandarin tree is a great choice for people who want to grow their own mandarins. It can be grown in a variety of soils and tolerates heat well, but also has a low heat requirement for fruit maturity. The evergreen tree is nearly thornless with dense, narrow leaves. The small to medium-sized fruit is seedless or has few seeds, depending on the climate or cross-pollination where it is grown.

Clementine mandarins are tender, sweet and juicy fruits. Delicious eaten fresh or used in salads, desserts, cocktails, juices, and jams. The Clementine mandarin tree is perfect if you want a productive and low-maintenance citrus tree. Order your Clementine Mandarin Tree today from Plants Express and enjoy fresh mandarins from your own backyard orchard!

    Semi-Dwarf vs. Standard citrus trees:
The difference between a semi-dwarf tree and a standard tree is the mature height. Semi-dwarf citrus trees are smaller and grow to approximately two-thirds the size of a standard tree form. Depending on the position of the lower branches on the trunk, a semi-dwarf citrus can look like a bush with a short trunk, or a tree with a trunk.

The mature height of a Clementine Mandarin tree based on average growing conditions is:
    Semi-Dwarf tree: 8-15 ft. tall.
    Standard tree: 15-20 ft. tall.
In containers, the Clementine Mandarin tree will be smaller and can easily be pruned to maintain a desired size.

The mature height and fruit production of your citrus tree will depend on several environmental factors such as climate, light, soil type, texture, fertility and moisture, and pruning practices. Your citrus tree can easily be maintained at a smaller size with annual pruning.

    Plant Care

When planting the Clementine Mandarin Tree, it is important to choose a location that gets full sun, as this tree needs a lot of sunlight to grow and produce fruit. The soil should be well-draining and if the soil is heavy clay, mix in some sand or organic matter to improve drainage. To plant, dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Carefully remove the tree from its container and loosen any tangled roots. Place the tree in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil and backfill the hole with the soil you removed earlier. Tamp it down gently and water the tree well to help settle the soil and remove any air pockets.

The Clementine Mandarin tree tolerates heat well, but also has a low heat requirement for fruit maturity. The climate and amount of heat, or heat stress, can determine the harvest time, seeds, and fruit size.  In areas with high heat, Clementine mandarins mature earlier and have larger fruit.

When it comes to care, the Clementine Mandarin Tree is relatively easy to take care of, it is drought tolerant and doesn't need frequent watering, but make sure to keep the soil consistently moist. It doesn't require frequent fertilization, but you can add some balanced fertilizer in the spring. The tree may require pruning to remove any dead or diseased branches and to shape the tree.

Expect to start producing fruit in its second or third year, ready to be harvested in late winter or early spring. The tree will continue to produce fruit for many years. A mature tree may grow up to 20 feet tall but can be held at a smaller size with regular pruning. With proper care, the tree should be healthy and productive for many years.
